The basin is where microcement shows the most: the joint between the bowl and the countertop disappears and you are left with a single continuous surface, in the same colour as the wall if you want. It goes over what you already have — masonry, porcelain or marble — in a thin coat, so nothing has to be torn out and the waste pipe stays where it is.
Microcement is waterproof once cured, seven days after the last coat dries: water neither stains it nor soaks into it. That is why a basin works — it drains water rather than holding it — while baths and pools stay outside the system. The varnish goes on top for a different reason: it provides the resistance to soap and cleaning products, protects against wear and gives the finish. With it, upkeep is water and neutral soap; what it will not take is a metal scourer or abrasives, which scratch the sealer.
The basin is not sold separately: it is part of the bathroom kit, which also covers walls, shower and countertop in the same colour — which is exactly what makes the room look like one piece. You choose the square metres, the colour and the surface you have — tile or masonry — and the price is fixed, with no quote and no site visit.
