Primers

The primer is the bridge between your surface and the microcement: the step nobody sees in the finished result, and the one that makes the coating peel or come out patchy if you skip it or pick the wrong one.

Choosing is quick. If your surface absorbs water — cement, mortar, concrete, plaster or plasterboard — it is Smart Primer ABS, which seals the pore so the surface does not drink the material and the microcement cures evenly. If water runs off it — tile, porcelain, mosaic, terrazzo or marble — it is Smart Primer PLUS, with maximum adhesion on ceramic. They are not interchangeable.

One litre covers around 8 m², which is the ratio our kits are built to, and it comes in 0.5, 1 and 2 litre sizes. If your surface has grout lines, fill them with Smart Jointer before priming so the grid does not show through later.

The microcement kits already include the right primer for your surface, and the final sealer is in sealers.

I found this product because I was so sick of cleaning tile grout. I wanted the Tadelakt look without spending $$$. The process takes time but the result was worth it. Only use the plastic trowel — a metal one leaves black marks. The Smartcret team was very helpful. I love my new shower and get so many compliments on it!
