Primers

The primer is the bridge between your surface and the microcement. It is the step nobody sees in the final result, and the one that, when skipped or wrongly chosen, makes the coating peel off or come out patchy.

There are two, and they are not interchangeable because they solve different problems. Smart Primer is for absorbent surfaces — cement, mortar, concrete, plaster or plasterboard — and it seals the pore so the surface does not drink up the material and the microcement cures evenly. Smart Primer PLUS is for non-absorbent surfaces — wall tiles, stoneware, mosaic, terrazzo or marble — and it is maximum-adhesion, formulated to grip onto ceramic material that lets nothing through.

The rule is simple: if your surface absorbs water, Smart Primer; if the water beads off, Smart Primer PLUS. On surfaces with joints, besides the primer you need to fill them first with Smart Jointer so the grid does not telegraph through later.

If you would rather not pick product by product, the microcement kits already include the primer matching your surface. And the final sealing varnish is in sealers.
