Before you buy

Check if this kit is right for your bathroom

This solution is designed to renovate jointed surfaces (tiles, mosaic, floor tiles…) without removing them. Check these four points before choosing size and colour.

Compatible surface

Surfaces with stable joints: tiles, mosaic, floor tiles, terrazzo or marble. This is not the right kit for plaster, drywall or cement substrates.

Coverage

Measure the height × width of each surface. The calculator adds a 10% margin and recommends the right kit size, or a combination for larger projects.

What's included

Joint filler, primer, microcement base coats, finish, varnish, additive and sandpaper: the complete layer-by-layer system.

What you need separately

Sealer roller, polycarbonate trowel and basic tools. You can find them in microcement tools.

FREE shipping included in the price. Delivery times depend on your country; you will see the estimate at checkout.

Everything you need to know before you start

What’s included and what do I need separately?

The kit includes all the Smartcret system products needed for your surface and your square metres: you will find them detailed one by one, with their quantities, in the ‘Description’ tab below. You will also need a sealer roller, a polycarbonate trowel and basic protection and application tools. The microcement comes ready to use, already pigmented; only the final coat of varnish is mixed with its booster.

How do I choose the coverage?

Measure the surface to be covered: for walls, width × height of each section; for floors, worktops or furniture, length × width of each face. Subtract only large openings, add up the total and add a 10% margin. Choose the kit whose m² is equal to or greater than the result; if in doubt between two, go for the larger one. You can also use the calculator in the selector.

How long does the project take?

The full project takes 3 days. The varnish reaches full cure from 7 days.

Can I return or exchange the kit?

Yes: you have 14 days from delivery for exchanges and returns. Return shipping is at the customer’s expense and your order number is enough for us. See the full conditions.

Is it right for my surface?

Each kit is formulated for a specific project and surface: you will find it in the kit name and in the line with ✓ above the coverage selector. If your surface is different (for example, plasterboard instead of tiles), use the assistant at the top and we will take you to the right kit. First repair any loose piece, active crack or damp problem.

Description

What's in the 6 m² microcement kit for tiled fireplaces

In just a few days your tiled fireplace will become a seamless, modern surface with a style all of its own — without removing a single tile. And the credit is all yours, because at Smartcret we stand for renovations and DIY projects.

Worried about the heat? Relax: this kit is designed for the outside of the fireplace, both the front and the surrounding areas. It handles everyday temperature changes without warping. That said, it isn't fireproof, so you can't apply it inside the fireplace or on areas exposed to direct flames.

With that covered, here's what the kit includes to cover up to 6 metres of fireplace with tiles, mosaic, stoneware or any surface with joints:

  • Smart Jointer: ready-to-use filler to cover the joints in your tiling and level the surface before you start.
  • Smart Primer PLUS: primer that ensures the microcement adheres to non-absorbent surfaces such as tiles or mosaic.
  • Smart Base: pigmented preparation microcement that builds up the base and erases the relief of the tiling.
  • Smart Liso: ready-to-use finishing microcement, already coloured, with that silky touch you'll fall for.
  • Smart Varnish: water-based protective sealer, in the finish you choose, matte or satin.
  • Sanding sheets: all you need to smooth between the coats of each product.

👉 Important: this kit does not include tools (trowel, roller, Smart Roller, brush, tray, spatula, bucket…). We recommend adding our tool kit for an easier, more professional application. Other low-quality tools could ruin the finish, and we can't take responsibility for that.

Additional information

Key things to keep in mind when covering your tiled fireplace with our 6 m² microcement kit

  • Only apply microcement to the outside of your fireplace: the front and the surrounding areas. It handles everyday temperature changes without any problem, but since it isn't fireproof you can't apply the material to surfaces in direct contact with the flames or inside the fireplace.
  • Suitable for tiles, mosaic and stoneware: any surface with joints. There's no need to chip off or remove the tiling; Smart Jointer and Smart Base take care of levelling everything.
  • Check there are no loose pieces: if a tile sounds hollow or moves, fix or replace it before you start. The substrate must be firm.
  • Tools matter: for the best result we've designed a specific tool kit. Using other tools, not tested by Smartcret and of lower quality, can harm the finish.
  • For corners and edges, use the spatula to achieve an even finish with no ridges.
  • Between coats, sand gently and remove the dust before carrying on.
  • A 45-degree angle with the trowel, always.
  • Don't light or use the fireplace until at least seven days have passed: that's the time our sealer needs to reach its maximum resistance.
  • Clean your microcement fireplace with water and pH-neutral soap, no abrasive products. At Smartcret we recommend Smart Cleaner (an eco-friendly detergent for a deeper clean) and Smart Wax (a maintenance wax to keep the finish flawless for much longer).
Properties

Benefits of finishing your 6 m² tiled fireplace with microcement

  • Renovation without building work, fully DIY: you can take this project on by yourself. With this ready-to-use kit you'll have your new fireplace in a couple of days, without removing a single tile or creating rubble.
  • Goodbye joints: microcement covers mosaic, tiles and stoneware and leaves a seamless surface with no visual interruptions. An even, elegant finish that will win you over.
  • A very versatile finish: with the range of colours and finishes you can give your fireplace whatever style you like, from minimalist and modern to rustic. Customisation without limits.
  • It withstands temperature changes: microcement handles the everyday variations of a fireplace in use without warping or being damaged. That said, it isn't fireproof: apply it only on the outside, never inside or on areas with direct flames.
  • No added thickness: just a few millimetres over the existing tiling. Your fireplace keeps its proportions and you don't have to touch frames or mouldings.
  • Minimal maintenance: do you think you'll be cleaning it every single day? Not at all! Cleaning once a week with water and pH-neutral soap is plenty.
Application

From tiles to a seamless finish: apply your 6 m² microcement kit for tiled fireplaces step by step

Today you start something you'll be showing off for years. Your tiled fireplace says goodbye to the joints and gets a seamless, modern surface with a style all of its own — without removing a single tile.

No tricks and no rushing here: a top finish comes from respecting the timings. Put your favourite song on, air the room and follow these steps to the letter. If you can paint a wall, you can do this.

Remember: only the outside of your fireplace (front and surrounding areas). Goodbye tiles, mosaic and stoneware: hello microcement.

  1. Substrate OK? Your tiling — tiles, mosaic or stoneware — must be firm, dry, clean and free of dust and grease. If there are loose pieces or cracks, repair them first.
  2. Goodbye joints: fill every visible joint in the tiling with Smart Jointer and sand once dry. The goal: a base as smooth as a canvas.
  3. Priming with Smart Primer PLUS: apply it with a roller and let it work for 30 minutes. It's the magic link between the non-absorbent tile and the microcement.
  4. Build up with Smart Base: apply 2 thin coats with Smart Roller and smooth with the trowel at 45º. Wait 6 h between coats and sand with 40 grit. The relief of the tiling disappears.
  5. Shine with Smart Liso: two more coats, same technique, sanding between coats with 220 grit. Your fireplace is ready for its close-up.
  6. Protection with Smart Varnish: apply 3 coats of the protective sealer, leaving 4 h between them and sanding the first and second with 400 grit. This "shield" leaves the finish beautiful, durable and easy to clean.

Wait 7 days before lighting and using the fireplace: that's when our sealer reaches its maximum resistance. After that: sofa, blanket... and your fireplace stealing the show.

Important:

  • This kit is for the outside of the fireplace: the front and the surrounding areas. It handles everyday temperature changes without any problem, but it isn't fireproof, so don't apply it inside the fireplace or on areas exposed to direct flames.
  • Sand by hand; an electric sander could burn the microcement through excessive pressure.
  • The angle of the trowel when applying must be 45 degrees.
