Description
What’s included in the 8 m² microcement kit for concrete countertops?
The excellent water resistance (not for standing water) and humidity resistance of our product allow you to design beautiful microcement countertops for your bathroom from scratch. You’ll get a decorative yet functional element that will be the envy of friends and neighbours.
But before we show you what’s inside this microcement kit for concrete countertops of up to 8 m², let’s answer the question we know you’re asking yourself:
What about kitchen countertops? At Smartcret, we don’t recommend – and don’t guarantee – the use of our microcement on kitchen countertops.
Here are the three reasons why we advise against this application and can’t guarantee the results:
1. Microcement is not fireproof. You cannot place hot pots, pans or trays directly on the surface – you could damage it! If you still want to create a microcement kitchen countertop, use trivets or a wooden board to protect it. You wouldn’t put a hot pan directly on marble, so why would this be different?
2. You can’t cut food directly on it. Cutting straight on the surface will leave unattractive marks that will ruin your countertop faster than your recipes. Always protect and prevent.
3. Watch out for stains! The longer you wait, the worse it gets. Would you leave an oil stain sitting for days on your granite countertop? Then don’t do it with microcement either. The winning combo of Smart Varnish and Smart Booster gives excellent chemical resistance (see table in the technical data sheet) against oil and vinegar stains for up to 8 hours. But prevention is key: clean up quickly with our Smart Cleaner and you’ll be safe.
Inside the kit you’ll find:
- 1 x Smart Primer ABS (1 L) – Primer for absorbent surfaces like your concrete countertop: cement, mortar, concrete, etc.
- 1 x Smart Base (16 Kg) – Base microcement, already pigmented.
- 1 x Smart Liso (6 Kg) – Extra fine finish microcement, also pre-coloured.
- 1 x Smart Varnish (2 L) – Water-based varnish, matte or satin, to protect against humidity, water, soap, etc.
- 1 x Smart Booster (100 g) – Enhances the chemical resistance of the varnish.
- 6 x 40-grit sandpapers – For initial sanding of Smart Base.
- 10 x 220-grit sandpapers – For smoothing between coats of Smart Liso.
- 6 x 400-grit sandpapers – For the perfect finish and varnish sanding.
💡 Smartcret Tip: Tools are not included in this kit, but we’ve got a specific tool set with polycarbonate trowel, rollers, etc., to ensure a flawless finish. Using low-quality tools could affect the final result – and you don’t want that!
Application
How to apply our microcement kit on your concrete countertop of up to 8 m²
Your bathroom is that intimate space where the day begins and ends. And your concrete countertop – for now just a surface – is where you look in the mirror, get ready, or simply switch off. And yes, it can become a unique spot with its own modern, durable style.
With this microcement kit for concrete countertops of up to 8 m², you’re not just getting an aesthetic upgrade: you’re living the experience of transforming, with your own hands, a plain countertop into a seamless, water-resistant design full of personality.
No need to be an expert – just follow these steps and let the result surprise you. Here begins your mini DIY renovation:
1. Prime your cement or concrete countertop
Clean your countertop thoroughly: no dust, grease or soap residue. Once spotless, apply one coat of Smart Primer ABS with a roller. Let it dry for 30 minutes. Your bathroom countertop is now ready for microcement.
2. Build the strong base that holds it all
Apply two thin coats of Smart Base (<1 mm) with the Smart Roller and then smooth and level with the trowel at a 45° angle. Allow 6 h between coats and sand gently with 40-grit paper. Your countertop is taking shape!
3. Fine finish, premium look
Now it’s time for Smart Liso. Apply two coats (<0.5 mm), repeating the process: Smart Roller and trowel at 45°. Sand with 220-grit paper between coats and allow 6 h drying time. This is where your countertop becomes seamless, smooth and full of character.
4. Total protection
Smart Varnish + Booster, let it rest for 5–15 minutes and apply three coats. Sand with 400-grit paper between the first and second, and allow 4 h between each. After 7 days of curing, your microcement bathroom countertop will be ready to withstand everyday life.
💡 Tips for a TOP finish:
- Thin coats = best results.
- Always keep the trowel at a 45° angle.
- Be patient with drying times: it’s the secret to a flawless finish.
- Let the varnish cure for 7 days before heavy use.
- Skip the electric sander: too much pressure can damage the material. Our sandpapers are designed for manual sanding.
