How to apply your 4 m² concrete shower microcement kit

4 m² may seem little, but it’s enough to make a before and after in your bathroom. The best part: in such a compact space, every detail stands out and the process becomes easier and faster. You’re in charge, you apply it, and in just a few days you’ll have a new microcement shower with no drama.

Forget endless works and dirt: this is a DIY project where everything is under control. Still, before starting, keep in mind these basics that will make the difference.

Before starting:

• Check the moisture of the substrate (especially negative moisture). If it’s not treated beforehand, it will pass through the microcement.
• If there are cracks or chips, fix them before applying. A firm base = a flawless finish.
• Does your shower tray have enough slope? You need at least a 10% incline towards the drain to avoid it turning into a pool.
• Clean everything: soap residues, dust, grease. The substrate must be perfect.

Tips during application:

• Use a spatula in corners and edges: cleaner finishes and you’ll look like a pro.
• If you’re only decorating walls, seal the joint with the tray using silicone to avoid leaks.
• If you’re applying on the tray, remember: minimum slope of 10%.
• Walls + shower tray? Always start with the walls. Protect with tape and plastic to avoid accidents.
• Let it cure for 7 days before using the shower: the varnish reaches its maximum resistance after a week.
• Always keep the trowel at 45°. Any other angle = guaranteed disaster.
• Sanding must always be by hand. An electric sander applies too much pressure and can burn the material.

Step by step method to apply microcement on your drywall, plaster, concrete or cement shower:

1. Prime with Smart Primer ABS: apply one even coat with roller and let it dry 30 min. Your substrate is ready.
2. Two coats of Smart Base: apply 2 thin coats (less than 1 mm) with Smart Roller and smooth with trowel at 45°. Let dry 6 h between coats and sand with grit 40.
3. Two coats of Smart Liso: apply 2 thin coats (max. 0.5 mm). Same plan: roller, trowel, 6 h drying and sanding with grit 220. Your shower is starting to shine.
4. Three coats of Smart Varnish + Smart Booster: mix with Smart Booster and apply 3 coats of varnish with the additive. Respect 4 h drying between coats and sand the 1st and 2nd with grit 400. Wait 7 days of curing before using it.
