Description

What’s in the 12 m² microcement kit for a cement or concrete fireplace

In just a few days, your absorbent fireplace surround becomes a continuous, modern, durable surface. This pack is designed for the exterior (front and visible surrounding areas) and handles normal temperature changes with ease.

Important: microcement is not fireproof—do not apply it inside the firebox or on areas exposed to direct flame.

  • 2 × Smart Primer ABS (1 L): high-adhesion primer that equalizes absorption and prepares the base. Ensures a safe, even bond on absorbent substrates such as cement, concrete, drywall, or plaster.
  • 2 × Smart Liso (6 Kg): ready-to-use, pre-pigmented finishing microcement. Allows thin coats with a silky feel and a seamless look that withstands the fireplace’s ambient heat.
  • 2 × Smart Varnish (1 L and 2 L): protective sealer in matte or satin. Adds hardness, enhances color, and simplifies day-to-day cleaning to keep the finish pristine for longer.
  • 12 × 220-grit sanding sheets: for gentle smoothing and removing small nibs between Smart Liso coats without damaging the surface.
  • 6 × 400-grit sanding sheets: for fine sanding between varnish coats to achieve a uniform, elegant touch.

👉 Tools not included. Trowel, roller, Smart Roller, tray, putty knife, bucket, etc. are not part of this pack. We recommend our tool kit for an easier, more professional application. Low-quality tools = risk of marks—we can’t take responsibility for that.

Additional information

Key considerations for coating your inbuilt fireplace with this 12 m² microcement kit

  • Exterior only: coat front and visible surrounding areas only. The system is not fireproof—do not apply inside the firebox or on surfaces in direct contact with flame.
  • Right tools = better finish: use our dedicated Tool Kit. Untested or low-quality tools can leave marks and spoil the result.
  • Level the substrate first: if the fireplace has irregularities, level it with a suitable mortar before you start. Microcement needs a firm, flat base.
  • Clean edges & corners: use a putty knife to define junctions and avoid burrs.
  • Trowel at 45°: keeps the material under control and prevents drag marks.
  • Cure before lighting: wait 7 days before using the fireplace—this is when the varnish reaches maximum performance.
  • Cleaning & maintenance: use water and pH-neutral soap; avoid aggressive cleaners. For best results, use Smart Cleaner (biodegradable deep cleaner) and Smart Wax (maintenance wax) to keep the finish looking great for longer.

Properties

Benefits of using microcement on your inbuilt fireplace

  • No-renovation, 100% DIY. Do it yourself with the ready-to-use kit and debut a new surround in a couple of days—no dust, no contractors.
  • Style your way. A wide range of colors and finishes: from clean minimal to characterful rustic. Customize without limits.
  • Heat resistant (exterior use). Normal temperature changes won’t warp or damage the coating. Use it on the exterior only (never in direct contact with flame) and you’re good.
  • Seamless continuity. No joints, no visual breaks—just a uniform, elegant plane that gives a magazine-worthy look.
  • Low maintenance. A quick weekly clean with water and pH-neutral soap is enough. For extra care: pair with Smart Cleaner + Smart Wax.

Application

How to apply your 12 m² microcement kit for an inbuilt fireplace

You’re kicking off a project you’ll be proud of for a long time. Magazine-worthy finish without a never-ending remodel? Done. This weekend you’re in charge: roller ready, music on, and an inbuilt fireplace about to take center stage. The secret isn’t speed—it’s respecting drying times and keeping layers thin. Air the room, gather your tools, and follow the steps calmly: if you can paint a wall, you can do this.

Exterior only: coat just the front and visible surrounding areas. Before you start, confirm your substrate is compatible: cement, concrete, drywall, or plaster.

  1. Is the substrate ready? Your absorbent surface must be in perfect condition: no chips or cracks, no embedded dirt. Repair and clean thoroughly.
  2. Ensure adhesion with Smart Primer ABS. Apply one even coat with the orange roller. Wait 30 minutes before moving on to the microcement.
  3. Three coats of Smart Liso microcement. Thickness matters: apply 3 very thin coats (max. 0.5 mm per coat). Roll on with Smart Roller (first vertically, then horizontally), then level with the trowel at a 45° angle. Allow 6 hours between coats. After the first coat, hand-sand with 220 grit to knock down imperfections.
  4. Protect with Smart Varnish. Apply 3 coats, leaving 4 hours between each. After the 1st and 2nd coats, hand-sand with 400 grit. You’ll get that silky, uniform feel and a protected finish.

Curing & first use

Wait 7 days before lighting the fireplace—this is when the varnish reaches maximum performance. From then on, enjoy a continuous, modern, heat-resistant surface that’s easy to clean.

Important

  • Hand sanding only: an electric sander can burn the microcement due to excess pressure.
  • Keep the trowel at 45° to avoid drag marks.
