Everything you need to know before you start

What’s included and what do I need separately?

The kit includes all the Smartcret system products needed for your surface and your square metres: you will find them detailed one by one, with their quantities, in the ‘Description’ tab below. You will also need a sealer roller, a polycarbonate trowel and basic protection and application tools. The microcement comes ready to use, already pigmented; only the final coat of varnish is mixed with its booster.

How do I choose the coverage?

Measure the surface to be covered: for walls, width × height of each section; for floors, worktops or furniture, length × width of each face. Subtract only large openings, add up the total and add a 10% margin. Choose the kit whose m² is equal to or greater than the result; if in doubt between two, go for the larger one. You can also use the calculator in the selector.

How long does the project take?

The full project takes 3 days. The varnish reaches full cure from 7 days.

Can I return or exchange the kit?

Yes: you have 14 days from receipt for exchanges and returns. Return shipping is at the customer’s expense and you will need the invoice to process it. See the full conditions.

Is it right for my surface?

Each kit is formulated for a specific project and surface: you will find it in the kit name and in the line with ✓ above the coverage selector. If your surface is different (for example, plasterboard instead of tiles), use the assistant at the top and we will take you to the right kit. First repair any loose piece, active crack or damp problem.

Description

What’s included in the 16 m² microcement kit for kitchen walls?

If your kitchen is asking for more than just a small change, this 16 m² microcement kit is made for a proper transformation. It is ideal for renovating larger kitchen walls, covering several areas or creating visual continuity across the space with a modern, decorative and easy-to-maintain finish.

The kit includes all the products needed to apply the complete system on absorbent surfaces such as drywall, plaster, cement, concrete or mortar: from the initial primer to the final sealing coat.

And the best part? The microcement comes ready to use and already coloured at the factory, so you do not need to mix components, calculate ratios or add pigments. Open, stir, apply — and watch your kitchen change layer by layer.

Smartcret microcement is a decorative water-based acrylic paste, comfortable to apply indoors and low in VOCs. A real advantage if you are renovating your home yourself and want to work with products that are more pleasant and more considerate during application.

The kit includes:

  • 2 Smart Primer ABS 1 L: water-based acrylic primer designed to prepare absorbent surfaces. It helps improve adhesion between the substrate and the microcement, while also evening out absorption on walls such as drywall, plaster, cement, concrete or mortar.
  • 2 Smart Base 16 kg: ready-to-use preparation microcement, already pigmented. It has a coarser grain size and is applied as the base coat to give consistency to the system before the final finish.
  • 2 Smart Liso (3 and 6 kg): ready-to-use finishing microcement, also coloured and ready to apply. Its finer grain size helps create a smooth, seamless and decorative surface, with that modern look that makes a kitchen feel completely renewed.
  • 2 Smart Varnish 2 L: ready-to-use water-based polyurethane varnish, available in matt or satin finish. It seals and protects the microcement against everyday use, helping preserve the colour and appearance of the new coating.
  • 2 Smart Booster 100 g: special component added to the varnish to reinforce the final protection in demanding areas, such as kitchen front walls or backsplashes. A very useful extra in areas exposed to steam, splashes and frequent cleaning.
  • Sanding discs: included for manual sanding between coats. The kit contains different grits for each application stage: grit 40 for Smart Base, grit 220 for Smart Liso and grit 400 for the varnish.

📌 Important: application tools are not included in this kit. To apply the microcement correctly, you will need accessories such as rollers, trays, protective masking tape and a polycarbonate trowel. At Smartcret, you can also find the Smart Tools kit so you have everything ready before you start.

With this kit, you have a complete solution to renovate your kitchen without complicated building work or the hassle of adding pigments — and with the satisfaction of creating a design finish with your own hands. A single mix — the varnish with its enhancer at the end.

Uses

Which kitchen walls can you use this kit on?

This 16 m² microcement kit is designed for renovating kitchen walls and absorbent surfaces when you want to go beyond a small update. It is ideal for covering several walls, working on larger areas or creating a more continuous, modern and decorative look throughout your kitchen.

You can apply it on absorbent substrates such as drywall, plasterboard, plaster, stucco, cement, concrete or mortar, thanks to Smart Primer ABS, the primer included in the kit that prepares the surface before applying the microcement. A great choice for kitchens in renovation, new walls or absorbent surfaces that are ready to go from “still unfinished” to “now this looks amazing”.

It can also be used on front kitchen walls and backsplashes, where the coating has to deal with steam, splashes and frequent cleaning. For these areas, the kit includes Smart Booster, which is added to the varnish to reinforce the final protection.

A DIY solution for renovating more surface area with a seamless, up-to-date finish — without complicated building work, unnecessary mixing or giving up the satisfaction of transforming your kitchen with your own hands.

Application

How to apply the microcement kit for absorbent kitchen walls up to 16 m²

Renovating 16 m² of kitchen walls is not just about giving the space a quick refresh: it is about changing the whole feel of the room. More surface means more visual impact — and that calls for a very Smart approach: good planning, patience and the right method.

This kit is designed to transform kitchen walls and absorbent surfaces such as drywall, plasterboard, plaster, cement, concrete or mortar. Yes, it is a DIY application, but with 16 m² the key is to work in sections, respect the drying times and not try to race against the microcement. Spoiler: the microcement wins.

1. Get the area ready before you start

Before opening any product, check the entire surface you are going to cover. The walls must be firm, dry, clean and free from dust, grease, loose paint or damaged areas.

If you find cracks, dents, uneven areas or unstable sections, repair them before applying the system. On a 16 m² surface, even a small imperfection can become more noticeable once the finish is seamless.

Protect worktops, furniture, sockets, floors and edges with protective masking tape. It is also a good idea to mentally divide the application into sections, so you can work with more control and keep a steady rhythm.

2. Boost adhesion with Smart Primer ABS

Apply an even coat of Smart Primer ABS with a roller across the entire absorbent surface. This water-based acrylic primer prepares the substrate for the microcement and helps improve adhesion.

It also helps regulate the wall’s absorption, which is especially important when working on materials such as drywall, plaster, cement, concrete or mortar.

Leave it to dry for 30 minutes before continuing. It is a quick step, but an important one: this is where the invisible base of a good result begins.

3. Build the structure with Smart Base

Stir Smart Base well before applying it. Then spread a thin coat of approximately 1 mm with Smart Roller, working first vertically and then horizontally.

Next, smooth the product with the polycarbonate trowel, keeping it at around a 45° angle. Use curved movements in different directions to distribute the material properly and achieve a more even surface.

Leave to dry for 6 hours and sand by hand with grit 40. Then apply a second coat of Smart Base following the same process.

At this stage, you are not looking for the final finish yet: you are building the structure of the system. Think of it as preparing the canvas before the beautiful part begins.

4. Create continuity with Smart Liso

Now Smart Liso comes into play: the finishing microcement. Apply it in thin coats over the entire surface, keeping the amount of product under control and working in sections so you do not lose your rhythm.

Leave 6 hours of drying time between coats and sand by hand with grit 220 before applying the second coat. Smart Liso is responsible for that finer, decorative and seamless texture that gives kitchen walls a more modern look without a traditional renovation.

With 16 m², consistency is everything: same pressure, thin coats and patience. The finish will show it.

5. Protect the result with Smart Varnish and Smart Booster

Add Smart Booster to the Smart Varnish container and shake well so both components mix correctly. Then apply 3 coats of varnish with a microfibre roller.

Leave 4 hours of drying time between coats and sand by hand with grit 400 after the first and second coat. This final sealing step helps protect the surface in a room where a lot happens: steam, splashes and frequent cleaning included.

You can choose between a matt or satin finish, depending on the style you want for your kitchen.

Important: the varnish reaches its maximum mechanical and chemical resistance from the seventh day after the application has been completed.

🧠 Smart tips for applying 16 m² properly

✔️ Work in sections. On larger surfaces, good organisation helps achieve a more even finish.

✔️ Do not overload the product. Thin coats are easier to control and reduce the risk of marks, ridges or cracking.

✔️ Keep the trowel at around 45°. This angle helps control the texture and avoids surprises in the final finish.

✔️ Use a polycarbonate trowel. It helps prevent black marks or unattractive scratches on the microcement.

✔️ Always sand by hand with the sanding discs included. An electric sander may create too much friction and affect the coating.

✔️ Respect the drying times. In a 16 m² DIY renovation, patience does not delay the result: it improves it.
