Curious about the products behind the big transformation you’re about to pull off? Here’s what’s included in our microcement kit for bathroom floors with joints for 8 m²:
- 1 unit of Smart Jointer (1.5 Kg): a high-adhesion, fast-drying filler paste used to fill and smooth joints between tiles and mosaics. Its main job is to level the surface before applying Smartcret’s ready-to-use microcement. It’s also resistant to water and ambient humidity.
- 1 unit of Smart Primer PLUS (1L): a water-based acrylic primer that improves the adhesion of Smartcret microcement on non-absorbent surfaces such as tiles, mosaics, terrazzo, marble, etc.
- 1 unit of Smart Base (16 Kg): a ready-to-use coloured preparation microcement with strong adhesion and a coarser grain. It’s applied as the base layer before using Smart Liso.
- 1 unit of Smart Liso (6 Kg): a ready-to-use coloured finishing microcement with a finer grain and strong adhesion. It’s the final layer of the Smartcret system and can create burnished or water-like effects during application.
- 1 unit of Smart Varnish (2L): a water-based varnish that protects microcement from abrasion, cleaning agents, moisture, and daily wear. It enhances colour and is available in matte or satin finish.
- 1 unit of Smart Booster (100 g): component B added to the varnish for increased chemical resistance, hardness and durability against abrasion.
- Sanding discs: to sand between layers during the microcement application. Includes 6 discs of grit 40, 10 discs of grit 220 and 6 discs of grit 400.
At Smartcret, we also offer a separate tool kit specifically for applying our microcement. It’s not included in this microcement kit for bathroom floors with joints up to 8 m², but we highly recommend it for optimal results. It includes tools such as rollers, polycarbonate trowel, paint trays, protective masking tape, and more.
Application
How to apply the microcement kit for bathroom floors with joints for 8m2
1. Before starting, clean and degrease the surface.Once it’s dry, mask off the area with protective tape.
2. Fill the joints using a spatula or trowel with one coat of Smart Jointer. Let it dry for 24 hours. Then sand the surface with 40-grit sandpaper.
3. Prepare the surface for the system. Use a roller to apply one coat of Smart Primer PLUS. Let it dry for 30 minutes.
4. Dip the Smart Roller into Smart Base and spread a thin coat (less than 1 mm) vertically, then horizontally across the surface. Smooth it out with the polycarbonate trowel using arched movements in all directions. Repeat the process until the entire surface is evenly covered and smooth. Let each coat dry for 6 hours and sand between coats with 40-grit sandpaper. Apply 2 coats of Smart Base in total.
5. Repeat the same process with Smart Liso.Use the Smart Roller and polycarbonate trowel to apply a thin coat (less than 0.5 mm) until the surface is fully covered. Allow 6 hours of drying between coats and sand with 220-grit paper after each one. Remove the masking tape between coats. Apply 2 coats of Smart Liso in total. Let dry for 24 hours after the final coat.
6. Add Smart Booster to the Smart Varnish container.Shake the mix gently by hand for a few minutes. While it rests, apply masking tape to the necessary areas. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
7. Once the Smart Varnish mix is ready, apply the first coat. The mix remains usable for 24 hours, so you can apply the second and third coats within that time. Allow each coat to dry for 4 hours. Once the final coat is dry, remove the masking tape. Don’t forget to sand the first and second coats with 400-grit sandpaper. Keep in mind: the varnish will reach maximum resistance after seven days.
*Important: Maintaining a 45º angle with the trowel is key when applying Smartcret microcement. Otherwise, the final result may not turn out as expected. It's also essential to use the Smartcret polycarbonate trowel — it's burn-resistant! Using a different type of trowel could affect the finish. Keep in mind that the sanding sheets included in the kit are designed for manual sanding. Using an electric sander may apply too much pressure and damage or burn the surface.
